UAW Local 4811 is the union for 48,000 workers at the University of California: 36,000 Academic Student Employees, 7,000 Postdocs, and 5,000 Academic Researchers. Together, we collectively bargain for better working conditions and build power to win a fairer and more democratic university.

Our union.

At every opportunity, UC academic workers use our collective power to win economic and social justice at UC and beyond, and to carry on the teaching and research mission of the University of California in the interest of the public.

Our rights.

Since our union was first recognized, UC academic workers have won contractual rights that set national standards, including protections against all kinds of discrimination, abuse, harassment and retaliation, the right to affordable public transit, the right to tuition remission, the right to fair appointment lengths, and more.

Our movement.

UAW 4811 members are part of the movement of workers across the country who are fighting for rights, power, and justice in our workplaces.
