PROTECT PUBLIC
HIGHER EDUCATION
The Trump administration has begun an attack on public research to further their extreme, right-wing agenda: freezing federal grants, undermining university budgets, censoring research on public health and climate change, and targeting workers at the NIH, CDC, NSF, and FDA. On February 7th, the Trump Administration attempted to slash grants funded by the National Institutes of Health by cutting the overhead rate that funds core university operations. These cuts would reduce NIH funding to UC campuses — which was $2.6 billion in 2023-24 — by more than 15%. A change so sudden and steep would bring catastrophic consequences for public research, and for higher education in general, at UC and across the United States.
At UC, UAW 4811 members are organizing to defend scientific research and advance a vision of higher education that truly works for the public. Check this page for updates and info about how you can get involved.
